The Peoples Democratic Party and the Labour Party have both called on INEC Chairman Prof. Mahmood Yakubu to resign. INEC, the Independent National Electoral Commission, has responded.

The call was deemed inappropriate by the Commission.

The INEC Chairman allegedly assigned scores to parties, according to Dino Melaye, the PDP’s collation agent. INEC called this claim unfounded and reckless.

Contrary to what both parties had suggested, the Commission asserted, findings coming from the states indicate a transparent, impartial, and free process.

  “When parties or candidates are unhappy with the results of an election, there are established procedures they can follow. In a statement signed by Rotimi Oyekonmi, the Commission’s chief press secretary, the Commission stated that such procedures do not entail requesting the resignation of INEC Chairman or the annulment of the election.

Yes, harmed parties are free to approach the courts, air their grievances, and wait for the issue to be resolved. Making remarks that could incite violence or unrest is unacceptable.

“The preparations for the general election of 2023 are almost finished. It is only right that parties who have been wronged wait for the procedure to be over before presenting their complaints to the courts with supporting documentation.
